CERFO
OUR HISTORY
CERFO, previously known as Akheri Free Library free library was established in the year 2009 with only 1 main room and 2 small rooms provided for free by Mzee Jackson Kaaya after his son (Godfrey) persuaded him that the building and the land could be used for establishing a Free Public Library where students from 4 main secondary schools(Nkoanrua,Nkoarisambu,Akheri and Ndoombo) and 5 primary schools(Akheri,Nkoanrua,Mavinuni,Nkoarisambu and Kimundo) could meet and exchange knowledge through reading and discussion's on their studies. With that in mind,Mzee Jackson decided to give the land free so as the project could start.
For the library to start we embarked on a project called "Charity Books" where we had to walk in 200 different houses in Nkoanrua ward in campaign of asking for books from the communities that were no longer useful to them.We managed to collect 140 book manuals and our library was first open to the community on August 2010.The number of the students that appeared to be utilizing the library service was so big compared to our expectations and with the pressure on we had to start updating our library with more books and equipment's through personal efforts and other well wishers surrounding our community.
By the fall of 2012 we had managed to serve more than 500 students from the Nkoanrua,Akheri and Nkoarisambu ward(s). The number has since been rising to the extent that there is a huge need of expanding the library wing and adding more space enough to serve well the students and community members that access our library service.
OUR MISSION
The mission of CERFO is "to advance the quality of life in the community and provide unrestricted access to information in a variety of formats". The library assists users of all ages by developing its collections, providing services and developing programs that support the development of individual's full potential.
